Children's Athletics at Nga Puna Wai On Hold

Children's Athletics has been put on hold until CCAA executive meet this week (18th Oct) to further discuss this going forward....

Practices will run as normal at Hansen's Park and we will advise once we have more information how we will make this happen.

Gathering Limits at Level 2 – community sport requirements
Over the last week there have been increasing concerns about the requirement for a 100-person limit for community sport activities as a social gathering vs gatherings at event facilities, which can now host events with no limits on persons provided there is 1-metre distancing in place.

We have now clarified that the intent of the health order at Alert Level 2 is to limit community sport to social gatherings of 100 people, with no physical distancing in place allowing contact sport to be played.  Shifting these community sport requirements to align them with permissions at event facilities would lead to increased public health risk.

As a result, our guidance has been amended to reflect that the activity of community sport (including community sport competitions and events) - regardless of venue, indoor or outdoor - should be considered a social gathering and as such, the 100 number cap applies, with no social distancing for participants while playing or competing. We appreciate that this is more restrictive than originally interpreted, but this is in line with the Health Order and designed to reduce the associated public health risk.

The Port Hills Athletic club is a family focused club that caters for a range of abilities which appealed to me when I was looking at joining a club. I am a middle aged, middle of the pack female runner who thought clubs were only for gun runners. I was wrong and have found there are runs for all ages and all abilities. I have made firm friends and enjoyed many runs in the 4 years I have been a club member. My running has improved and I enjoy it more as I am running with others rather than by myself. There are also opportunities to be involved in the club’s operations by becoming a committee member. Thanks to the club and all its members for your company

My partner and I moved to Christchurch in winter 2018 and decided to join a running club to help us get to know people. We’re so glad we chose the Port Hills club. The members are really friendly and welcoming and they cater for all abilities. There’s a good variety of training sessions available throughout the week and the social runs have really helped us make new friends and feel at home here. If you’re looking for a running club I can definitely recommend this one!
