2019 Port Hills Athletic AGM
Thanks to everyone who came along and supported the 2019 AGM, was a nice evening and a lot to report from this to you all.
Annual Report
Please have a read through the annual report. There’s a link to a PDF version of it here. Presidents Annual Report 2019 AGM
Election of Officers – The Committee
For the first time in a few years, we have a full committee. Of special note is a few changes in roles. The full committee for 2019/2020 is as follows:
- President – Kevin Knight
- Vice President – Paul Johnston
- Secretary – Bernie Jago
- Treasurer – Peter King
- Track & Field Senior Club Captain – Kevin Jago
- Track & Field Junior Club Captain – Amanda Landers
- Cross Country, Road & Trail Senior Club Captain – Rod Vardy
- Cross Country, Road & Trail Junior Club Captain – Emma Griffen
- Committee Track & Field – Nikki McAven
- Committee Track & Field – Frouke Geertsma
- Committee Cross Country – Glen Watts
- Committee Cross Country – Peter Bayliss
- Committee Children – Don Chittock
- Committee Children – Sonya Hazlett
The changes in roles are Kevin Knight now takes over as Club President. Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge of our club and all aspects of it having been involved with the club in one form or another for 30 years now (previously as St Martins). Kevin’s quote as follows:
Port Hills is an important part of my life. I joined St Martins – its forerunner club – 41 years ago. After a break in membership, I returned. In total, I have been a member for over 30 years. My closest friends are Port Hills members. I tell you this to show that my heart is in Port Hills and I would be pleased to continue helping this wonderful club where I can.
I’m moving down from the Club President to Vice President after 3 years in the role. This will give me a bit more time within the committee and allow me to focus on a more strategic role within the club. We have some good ideas we’d like to see implemented!!
With the vacant position of Senior Club Captain for Cross Country, Road and Trail, Rod Vardy has stepped into the role!! Rod is a vastly experienced athlete and one heck of a good guy so looking forward to working with him. In addition, Kevin Jago is back on the committee working on the senior side of the Track and Field so welcome back to the committee Kevin.
Election of Life Members
Bit of a surprise on the night for me but the two recipients for life membership from the AGM:
- Peter Bayliss
- Paul Johnston (myself!!)
Setting of Club Fees
With the success of the Crater Rim Ultra, 5K Series and various fundraising efforts from the committee, we’ve put the club in a strong financial position meaning the committee proposed a reduction on your club subscription by $10 which was approved at the AGM starting from April 1st, 2020. This means the following:
- Age 17 years and younger currently pay $30, this will be reduced to $20
- Age 18 years and older currently pay $45, this will be reduced to $35
In addition to the subscription component of your membership, the winter race entry fees prepay method will be dropped in favour of a per-race entry fee.
As an example, an athlete aged 20 or older who wishes to be a fully registered member including race registration currently pays $206 per year to be a member of Port Hills Athletic Club, Athletics Canterbury and Athletics NZ. This will be reduced to $126 per season plus any costs to enter races paid at entry time for each individual event.
Or a non registered athlete aged 18 or older will now be paying $78.50.
General Business
We’re keen to get the newsletter up and running again. I’ll look after any articles and we’ll push for either a monthly or bi-monthly newsletter again. This will be online, however, it will be in a printable format meaning printed copies will be available from the club rooms.
That’s all for now and thank you for all the support over the last 3 years. The next President’s report will be from Kevin Knight.
Thanks,
Paul Johnston
